DISCIPLINARY REGULATIONS
- No student who has been convicted of any offence
in a court of law will be allowed to continue his
/ her studies in the college.
- Malpractice and Misbehavior will be dealt with severely.
- Student should abstain from active participation
in party or communal politics. Students who indulge
in political propaganda or who organize fellow students
in political factions on the premises of the college
or hostel or who otherwise engage themselves in party
politics are liable to be expelled from the college
or hostel.
- Principal / Hostel authorities have full power to
inflict punishment such as fine, suspension and expulsion
of students from the college for violation of disciplinary
regulations and code of good behavior.
CODE OF GOOD CONDUCTT
- Students are forbidden to smoke within the college
premises, to write or make any marks or to deface
the walls with their foot prints on the walls or desks
or to throw bits of papers or ink on the floors of
the class rooms. Those who violate these rules shall
be punished.
- Students should be polite and punctual and come
to the college neatly dressed.
- Jeans, T-Shirts and Short Shirts should not be
worn inside the college.
- Students are not allowed to stand about or walk
along the verandas of the college during the class
hours.
- Strict silence should be observed inside the class
rooms.
- No student is allowed to enter or leave the class
room without the permission of the staff concerned.
- Requests, petitions, appeals and complaints of
any kind have to be made in the first place to the
Class Adviser or the Head of the Department concerned
and not directly to the higher authorities.
- If any damage is caused to the college property
by any student / group of students, the cost of the
same will be recovered with fine from the particular
student / group of students, followed by disciplinary
action.
RAGGING
EXTRACT OF ACT No. 7 OF 1997
An act to prohibit Ragging in educational institutions
in the State of Tamilnadu Short Title, extent and commencement
1. This act may be called the Tamilnadu Prohibition
of Ragging Act 1997.
2. It extends to the whole of the State of Tamilnadu.
3. It shall be deemed to have come into force on the
nineteenth day of December 1996.
Definition
In this act unless the context otherwise requires,
“Ragging” means display of noisy, disorderly
conduct, doing any act which causes or is likely to
cause physical or psychological harm or raise apprehension
or fear or shame or embarrassment to a student in any
educational institution and includes,
A. Teasing, abusing or practical jokes on, or causing
hurt to such students; or
B. Asking the students to do any act or perform something
which such student will not in the ordinary course willingly
do.
Prohibition of Ragging :
Ragging within or outside any educational institution
is prohibited.
Penalty for Ragging :
Whoever directly or indirectly commits, participates
in, abets or propagates “Ragging” within
or outside any educational institution, shall be punished
with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two
years and shall also be liable to a fine which may extend
to ten thousand rupees and more.
Dismissal of Student :
Any student convicted of an offence under penalty for
ragging shall also be dismissed from the educational
institution and such student shall not be admitted in
any other educational institution.
Suspension of Student :
Without prejudice to the foregoing provisions, whenever
any student complains of ragging to the Head of the
institution or to any other person responsible for the
management of the educational institution, such Head
of the educational institution or person responsible
for the management of the educational institution shall
enquire into the same immediately and if found true
shall suspend the student who has committed the offence,
from the educational institution.
The decision of the Head of the educational institution
or the person responsible for the management of the
educational institution that any student has indulged
in ragging under sub - section (1) shall be final.
Punishments :
The following could be the possible punishments for
those who are found guilty of participation in or abetment
of ragging. The quantum of punishment shall naturally
depend upon the nature and gravity of the offence as
established by the disciplinary committee or the court
of law.
WORKING HOURS
There will be six working days / five working days in
a week and Seven working hours a day from 9.00 a.m.
to 4.20 p.m. with a lunch break between 12.35 p.m. and
1.35 p.m.
HOLIDAYS
All Sundays and the first Friday & Saturday of every
month and holidays notified by the Government of Tamilnadu
and the Trust are to be treated as holidays.
AWARDS
The M.P.Nachimuthu M.Jaganathan Educational Trust has
created endowments to award prizes to the students for
their outstanding performance in their university examinations.
Gold Medal and Cash Prizes are awarded from these endowments
to the top ranking students. Cash Prizes of Rs. 1000/-
and Rs. 500/- are awarded to those students of each
year in each branch who secure first and second rank
respectively in the University Examinations every year.
Thiru. K.P.Kandasamy the former Principal of M.P.Nachimuthu
M.Jaganathan Polytechnic College has created an endowment
for Rs. 25,000/- in the name of “Palaniappan -
Amaravathi ” for awarding prizes to the best outgoing
student, from the accrual of interest.
Cash awards are also given by the management to the
faculty members who produce 90% results and above in
the subject handled by them every year.
SCHOLARSHIPS
The following scholarships are awarded by the Government
to deserving students.
1. BC Scholarship
2. MBC Scholarship
3. SC / ST Scholarship and Loan
Private Scholarships and Loans are also arranged by
the students individually.
ATTENDANCE
- It is mandatory that all students write their examinations
every semester/ Trimester during the regular examinations.
Therefore all students have to apply for examinations
without fail, pay examination fees, appear for exams
unless barred or not allowed for insufficient attendance,
etc.
- Absenteeism is strictly not permitted unless on
serious medical grounds or serious domestic exigency
/ eventuality of a tragic kind or any natural or such
other calamity, etc. preventing students from taking
their examinations.
- The norms for attendance requirement :
(I) Minimum attendance for eligibility to appear for
examination 75%
(II) Attendance that can be awarded based on recommendation
of the Principal for participation in official Co
- & Extra - Curricular activities, paper or project
presentation etc. : upto 20% by Controller of Examinations.
(III)Exceptional cases of hospitalisation, etc. duly
verified by the Principal and recommended by the Controller
of Examinations : 10% by the Vice -Chancellor.
PROGRESS IN STUDY
Students must show constant progress in performance
tests and model examinations conducted by the college
periodically.
CONDUCT AND CHARACTER
Must be consistently good
CONDUCT IN THE EXAMINATION HALL
- No candidate who is late by more than 30 minutes
shall be permitted to write the examination.
- No candidate shall be allowed to leave the examination
hall before the expiry of 45 minutes after the commencement
of examination and no candidate who leaves the examination
hall during the period allotted for paper will be
allowed to re-enter the hall within that period.
- Candidates who are undoubtedly suffering from infectious
diseases of any kind shall not be admitted to the
examination hall.
- Strict silence should be maintained in the examination
hall.
- Candidates are required to bring their own pens,
pencils, eraser and ink. Candidates should use only
blue or black ink while answering their papers.
- Candidates are not allowed to exceed the prescribed
time assigned to each paper.
- They shall not talk / ask questions of any kind
during the examination.
- They shall not take any written or printed matter
or any paper material into the examination hall and
if found in possession of any such material in the
examination hall during the examination hours they
shall be liable for disciplinary action.
- No candidates shall pass any part or whole of his
answer papers to any other candidates, nor should
he / she allow another candidates to copy from his
/ her answer script; nor copy from the answer script
of another candidate. If found committing such malpractice,
the involved candidates shall be liable for disciplinary
action.
- A candidate found guilty of using unfair means of
any nature shall be liable for disciplinary action.
- Candidate should produce the hall ticket on demand
by the Invigilator / Chief Superintendent.
- Candidate should abide by the other rules and regulations
of examinations as and when prescribed by the University.
LIBRARY
The Library has got an excellent collection of 23,225
volumes, 137 Indian Journals, Magazines and 64 International
Journals. Computerized retrieval system is employed.
The Library is for the use of the staff and students
of the college only. The Library is kept open from 8
a.m. to 8.00 p.m. on all working days and remains closed
on holidays. DELNET & NPTL facilities are also available.
Library Rules
- Strict silence should be maintained in the library
- Each student is permitted to take only one book
at a time from the library on surrendering the library
card issued to him / her.
- Library cards should be safely kept. If they are
lost, a fine of Rs. 25/- will be collected from the
students. Duplicate cards will not be issued.
- If the books are not returned on the due date, a
fine of Re. 1/- per day will be levied.
- Students should take care of the books without causing
damage of any sort like folding or underlining with
pen or pencil.
- In case of loss of a book, the borrower will have
to bear the responsibility for replacing the same
with a good book or pay three times the printed cost.
- Library books must be returned when students go
on long vacation.
- Magazines and journals after perusal must be kept
in their respective places.
- Lending of books shall be terminated at any time
for contravening the above.
IDENTITY CARD
Students are issued laminated identity cards containing
basic details along with blood group, date of birth,
contact phone number and residential address. The Identity
card is a valid document to check the bonafide of the
students within and outside the college. It is to be
brought to the college daily. No duplicate card will
be issued in the event of loss or damage to it.
